The primary ingredient and base of

What
are the historical benefits and uses of Aloe Vera?
Aloe Vera based products demonstrate
certain characteristics which are well documented,
and are described repeatedly throughout review
of hundreds of scientific studies.
The benefits of Aloe Vera have been treasured
throughout history. Rich in vitamins, minerals
and amino acids, it has long been prized for
the cosmetic, medicinal, health and beauty
qualities of the gel found in its leaves.
Aloe
Vera's use can be traced back 6,000
years to early Egyptian civilisation,
where the plant was depicted on stone
carvings. Known as the "plant
of immortality," aloe was presented
as a burial gift to deceased pharaohs.
It is considered by many to be a miracle

Aloe Vera has long been frequently
used for the treatment of burns and minor
skin problems and is even approved as a
natural food flavouring by the Food and
Drug Administration (FDA). [*]
Serious research began on
Aloe Vera in the late 70's and continues today
through numerous private companies, universities,
private physicians, the International
Aloe Council (IASC), etc.
What
special Aloe Vera properties were the focus of
Safe Tan™'s early research?
Of the countless
studies conducted on Aloe Vera, those of particular
interest to the manufacturer of Safe Tan™
in its early research were those focusing on
two of Aloe Vera's properties. Namely
these were:
The above research
demonstrated the penetrating effect of
Aloe Vera and its remarkable ability to carry
other ingredients down into several layers of
cells.
In plain English,
Aloe Vera - used in conjunction with other products
- takes them deeper into the cell layers, thereby
producing dramatic results more quickly.
In the 1980's,
one of the largest suppliers of Aloe Vera products
in the USA, Terry Laboratories, commissioned
extensive toxicity testing. Through this series
of tests it was determined that Aloe is "NOT
TOXIC" at "ANY LEVEL", but in
fact provides many benefits.
One of the most
interesting findings was that Aloe Vera in high
enough saturation, actually encourages basal
cell reproduction, which is the creation
of new skin cells.
So as a side
effect, if you put enough Aloe "IN"
or "ON" your body, you will build
more new cells. The result is fresher, younger
looking, less wrinkled skin.

What
are some of the documented benefits of using Aloe
Vera products?
In 1995, at the International Aesthetics Expo
in Las Vegas, Dr. Bill Coats, Director of the
Coats Aloe Institute (USA), presented some of
his findings regarding the benefits of using
Aloe products:
Cold processed Aloe Vera is effective as
an aid for the condition Chloasma (hyper-pigmentation
of the face), and also in lessening the condition
commonly called pregnancy mask.
Aloe Vera itself contains an enzyme, antityrosinase,
which in time will bleach away the darker
(Chloasma) pigmentation. This enzyme actually
eats necrotic (dead) tissue, in essence removing
those hated age or liver spots. (These dark
deposits are actually sun damage which accumulate
through years of exposure. They're commonly
found on the hands, arm, face and sometimes
the back and shoulders of people who have
spent a great deal of time in the sun during
their youth. The damage doesn't show up until
years after the exposure. While all parts
of the body are the same age, you'll note
this discolouration rarely develops on the
torso which is most often covered in day to
day activities.)
Aloe Vera is loaded with a wide range
of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes.
It is a very beneficial nutritional substance
for the skin.
Aloe Vera moisturises tissue to
which it is applied. It's a natural moisturiser
both for the surface and throughout the tissue.
Each application of Aloe Vera provides a
protective barrier which slows down
the evaporation of the natural moisture in
the skin to the outside atmosphere.
It aids in the removal of dead cells
on the surface of the skin due to the presence
of proteolytic enzymes which break down and
digest dead cells in all areas where applied.
This allows more rapid healing.
The penetrating effect of Aloe Vera and its
ability to take other ingredients down into
several layers of cells is extremely valuable
in understanding how Safe Tan™ works, and
why it has the ability to nourish and moisturise
the skin with regular use.
How
does Safe Tan™ unique Aloe Vera base formula
work?
Following extensive research, the manufacturers
of Safe Tan™ discovered a unique formulation
which allows a new way of keeping healthy,
natural colour all year round.
Safe Tan™ has been proven to produce amazing
improvements in appearance, and has been successfully
used as an aid with a vast array of skin
disorders and medical
conditions.
By using cold processed Aloe Vera as its base,
Safe Tan™ retains all the natural benefits
and qualities of Aloe Vera. In essence it's
a facial grade moisturiser - with colour added.
The colour in Safe Tan™ is a special mix
of cosmetic and food colourings, which are spread
over the skin with a paddle applicator. The
carefully designed blend of moisturisers and
carriers, take the colour and emollients down
into three layers of skin.
This instant coloured moisturiser yields immediate
and long lasting results. As the skin is sloughed
off (i.e. exfoliates) - thanks to the carriers
in Safe Tan™-, the lower layers are already
tanned and moisturised underneath. That's why
your tan fades gradually, just like a real tan.
One of the main benefits of Safe Tan™'s
Aloe-carrier (base) is the rehydration of
skin cells, causing them to 'plump up' and
smooth out fine lines in the skin's surface.
Aloe Vera is a hydrator of skin, as well as
a moisturiser and emollient. So when you apply
Safe Tan™, you are hydrating and moisturising
your skin while evening out the vagaries
of pigmentation caused by years of exposure
to hostile environmental pollutants and irritants.
The end result is diminished crepiness (cracking),
because it fills out those little cracks in
your skin by plumping up the skin cells underneath
(i.e. the second and third layers of your skin).
Some people have the misconception that if
a little is good, a lot will be better. However
this is not the case with Safe Tan™. The
best results are obtained by applying as thin
a coat as possible. The Aloe takes many nutritional
substances through the layers of the
skin which is why, in a short period of time,
the skin commonly develops what is called the
'Aloe Glow'.
What
independent and clinical tests have been done
on Safe Tan™, and what did these results
show?
In January 1998, after five years of empirical
studies and weekly use by more than one hundred
thousand clients, the (USA) manufacturer of
Safe Tan™ was ready to institute Independent
Laboratory Studies.
They were referred to several independent laboratories
to conduct their cosmetic claims substantiation
testing. All tests were conducted by specialists
whose work included Quality Control Assurance,
as well as statistical analysis and E.P.A. compliance.
The protocol designed for this project included
and met the following parameters:
Efficacy of the 'tanning' properties.
Longevity of the tan.
Hypoallergenic claims using industry standard
testing - requiring human patch tests with
200+ subjects.
Non-staining properties for hair, hails
and cuticles.
Documentation of the non-toxic and non-hazardous
status.
Documentation that product ingredients do
not increase photosensitivity.
Non-toxic and Non-Hazardous Claims.
Water Resistance Claims - SAFE TAN™
is water resistant as specified by industry
standard testing (e.g.. a whirlpool immersion
testing). It won't sweat off, swim off, or
cry off.
In addition the improvement in the evenness
of the skin tone was assessed by clinical grading,
bioinstrumentation, and photographic analysis
of the faces and forearms of the test subjects.
Excerpts from the final report of those independent
tests state:
"... There was a measurably
significant improvement in the hydration
of the skin as measured by Nova
Bioinstrumentation in 61% of the
subjects.
In clinical grading, 100% of the
scaling and flakiness was eliminated
with just one application of the
product.
Even 8 days after the initial application,
the moisture level of the skin,
as indicated by the scaling, remained
unchanged.
An 84% improvement in the moisturisation
level of the skin remained apparent
even at the close of the study."
"Safe Tan™ significantly
improved the appearance of veins,
freckles, scarring and other blemishes,
by making the skin colour become
more uniform. There was a 22%
improvement in the appearance
of the veins with one application.
On day 3, visibility of the veins
was reduced an additional 25%
from baseline."

of Erythema was reduced 67% with
just one application and 87.5% by
